FS 17875 Insignia White A high-quality semi-gloss US insignia white acrylic or enamel paint for aircraft scale models and creative work. FS 17875 Insignia White Color Guide: FS 17875 Insignia White was widely used for aircraft insignia, markings, and stencils on U.S. aircraft beginning in the mid-1950s. This color replaced ANA 601 Insignia White, previously used for the same purposes. For camouflage purposes, FS 17875 Insignia White began to be used in 1955 to paint the undersides of US Navy and USMC aircraft, the upper surfaces were to be painted FS 36440 Light Gull Gray under this scheme. In the 1970s, FS 16440 Light Gull Gray replaced the previously used FS 36440, but the difference was mainly in the finish, and the shade remained essentially the same. Carrier-based ASW helicopters, such as the SH-3 Sea King, received an inverted version of this camouflage: the upper parts were FS 17875 and the lower ones were FS 16440.
