The large profile and thickness of these pieces really brings the brutal reality of Anglo-Saxon era combat into focus. A versatile and long lived weapon was a dominate style of knife for several centuries. These fighting knives evolved across the continent in countless configurations—from modest belt knives a few inches long to full-sized single-handed swords.  These large war knives would have dealt incredible blows with their sharp edge and heavy weight.
