Mexico, Chontal Region Ca. 500 to 100 BC Overall rendered with strong, broad shoulders, large powerful head and plank-like body and short bent legs, perhaps for deformation or a dwarf. Excellent Olmec characteristic typical in the facial details with deeply drilled outlined eyes and mouth and oval shape head. Condition: Surface with correct weathered deposits and polish; Biconical drilled suspension holes at top corners and ears; Leg missing. Flecked green stone with applied cinnabar remaining. Size 8-3/8 inches H. + custom mount. Provenance: Coll of Saul Tuttman & Gregory Siskind NY acq 1970s-1980s.
