Pair of Ewe Terrracotta Ancestor Shrine Figures

From Togo, A choice expressive pair of abstract figures on flared base supports each with paddle-like hands and feet extended before them, pointed breasts, and bare penis. Their faces are modeled with open eyes, flared nostrils and mouth in hollowed tubular form. Hollow heads form vessel with open top, and nodded hair around flared rim. Varied surface, deposits. Size: 13-3/8 inches & 12-5/8 inches H.
