Timothy White has used his camera to capture uniquely intimate glimpses of some of the most famous celebrities of the past three decades, from his friend Harrison Ford to Brad Pitt, with whom he went on a five-day motorcycle trip in order to capture the perfect shot. His dramatically lit and detailed photographs have appeared on movie posters and in leading magazines from Rolling Stone to Vanity Fair, but in recent years, White has embarked on more personal projects, like a series of portraits of custom motorcycle builder Indian Larry and a body of work dedicated to his aging parents. No matter who is on the other side of his lens, White is able to elicit a sense of closeness from his subjects that distinguishes his work, managing to “lead them and mold” them without “prying too much,” as he says.
