Marc Chagall personally created the image, which was transferred to a lithographic plate and printed by Charles Sorlier at Mourlot Studios. Despite being part of a publication, it maintains its status as an original lithograph, as Chagall was directly involved in the creation of the artwork and its production process. It features Chagall’s depiction of a makeshift house reminiscent of the Jewish sukkah, a temporary structure built for the festival of Sukkot, a significant Jewish holiday.
