In 1871, following the Franco-Prussian War, the Treaty of Frankfurt led to the annexation of parts of the Meurthe department by Germany. The remaining French territory was combined with parts of the Moselle department to form the new department of Meurthe-et-Moselle. This map, therefore, represents an important historical snapshot of the region before these geopolitical changes.
