Title: The Iron HorseThe Iron Horse is recognized as an Athens Georgia landmark that has welcomed students and visitors for decades. This famous modern art sculpture has a colorful history.In 1954, artist Abbot Pattinson created this 12 ft, 1 ton abstract sculpture and it was installed at the university, right in front of Reed Hall. It seemed that the students weren’t exactly thrilled to have this modern art on campus and after some protesting, vandalism, and attempts to set fire to the statue, it was moved to a secret warehouse for several years.One day, a UGA horticultural professor found it and decided to move it to his farm, where it still stands in the fields.
