Nahual Face Churumbela Vase, Burnished Clay
Description This beautiful Burnished Clay Churumbela Vase is a piece from Master Artisan Luis Cortez’s collection. His attention to detail and steady hand in such an intricate design are something truly admirable. The orifice on the top part of the mouth; takes us back in time to ancient Mexico, due to its resemblance to Pre-Hispanic tripod vases. Cortez adds relief insertions, creating tridimensional shapes such as this Nahual face resembling a smiling cat. The Nahual, is a shapeshifter magical entity. This vase can be laid flat on its three feet or standing on two of them for its magnificent work to be appreciated from afar. Its decoration comes from tradition, respecting both strokes and technique, but with some color changes, and coming from his imagination, the addition of flower patterns uniting the Armadillos, leaf movements and multi-color garigole patterns.
