This work documents the atmospheric event where a field specimen was naturally encased in ice during an overnight freeze. By capturing the flora in this state, Sebastian Mader arrests its beauty and the elements of its life cycle—water and gas—at a specific point in time. This mirrors the technical function of photography: both the ice and the camera serve to capture and hold a moment that would otherwise disappear. As a foundational image of the study, Genesis #2 represents the original inspiration for the preservation process.
