About the Winery:St Nikolaus-Hospital - the Cusanusstift - is the oldest estate in the Middle Mosel region, founded in 1458 by Cardinal Nikolaus Cusanus von Kues. Von Kues was one of the greatest polymaths of his time: he was a philosopher, natural scientist, Bishop of Brixen, Cardinal and deputy of the Pope. Achim Kerpen, grandmaster of Riesling and one of the Mosel's most recognized Riesling makers, is in charge of the winery's 19 acres of prime vineyard sites including Bernkasteler Badstube, Brauneberger Juffer and Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr, Bernkasteler Lay, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, and Graacher Domprobst.
