This carving features the alien landscape of outburst channels in Ares Valles, Mars. Formed by sudden and tremendous flooding deep in Mars' past, the largest "streamlined island" depicted in this carving is the size of Manhattan and 1,000 feet tall. The Martian landscape is carved into rosewood with streaky lines reminiscent of water flow. The frames feature cornices with a four-point symbol carved into them, symbolizing the fourth planet from the sun. The frames are spalted maple, contrasting against the rich, dark hues of the main carving. It is titled Oceanids Rising.
