In the 1950's the current design of the Bear Flag was adopted by the California Legislature with Monarch the Bear being the feature star on the state flag. The Lone Star on the Golden State's flag is in solidarity with Texas which entered into negotiations with the USA to become a state and succeeded in doing so only 6 months prior to California's little revolt in the Northern California wine country town of Sonoma. June 14th is also Flag Day in the USA a Holiday of significance to people like me who are into learning history.
