Mare Island Placemat

Part of a geographic survey of the Federal Government from 1855.   All government work is done for the public and is in the public domain and can be used for commercial purposes because it has never been copywrited.  This image is edited and "New" but originally it is from an 1855 survey of Mare Island California.  Mare Island served as a pivotal base on the West Coast for many decades and built some important ships over the years.  It is home to many firsts including being the first location on the mainland of the USA to recieve news from Pearl Harbor that it was being bombed sparking the Date that has lived in infamy ever since.
