According to Lotus, these apples were from a farm where buckwheat flour was made. It was in October:  the trees were still green and the fruit had vivid colors. The background was done using Saran Wrap crumpled on the paint to create the illusion of leaves without the detail, so the eye stays focused on the fruit.
