This sweet ring a perfect example of beautiful mourning jewelry. Mourning jewelry was traditionally worn by a person mourning the loss of a loved one. This style jewelry became even more popular following the death of Prince Albert. Queen Victoria remained in mourning until her passing in 1901. Her exceedingly long mourning period caused a revival of mourning jewelry. During the latter half of the 19th century, mourning jewels were of somber design with black as the primary color for any gemstones and enamel.
