Coiled Raffia Basket Making Workshop

Begin your basket-making journey by exploring the simple, meditative beauty of the wrapped coiling technique. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll start by getting to know our star material: raffia. This versatile plant fiber is both strong and flexible—perfect for coiling—and comes in its natural hue or beautifully dyed colors to add vibrant accents to your design. From there, you'll dive into the coiling process as we cover the basics of shaping, sizing, and creating simple patterns. Once you get into the rhythm of the wrap, you'll find the technique both relaxing and deeply satisfying. While you'll likely not complete your 6" basket during class, we’ll finish with a demo on how to complete your project at home. The skills you learn can be used again and again to craft bowls, trays, and baskets in all shapes and sizes.
