04.11.2023oil on panel 5x7 in (13x18 cm)2023 titled, signed, and dated on the back 04.11.2023 Originally, I had planned to go to Diamond Valley Lake to see the poppies, but I realized this morning that it was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays! So we changed course and explored Chino Hills State Park. The trail had become overgrown with all the mustard flowers, that you could see the trail path lined with the tiny yellow flowers. I ran out of yellow during this painting, but with Plein Aire, you’re just trying to capture the essence of the environment—and the bold magenta flowers added the exact texture of the hike.  Plein Air Painting from life, is always a special way of creating art. Capturing the energy of the moment and getting to decide which parts to include or not include. By utilizing a limited pallet and limited brushes, I am forced to get creative in how each detail is portrayed.
