Juvenile Smooth Green Snake

Size: When born, smooth green snakes are 8–16 cm long and weigh about 1.1 g. Color: Baby smooth green snakes are not as bright as adults and are usually olive green, brownish, or bluish gray. This helps them camouflage in their environment. Diet: Smooth green snakes are insectivores that eat a variety of prey, including crickets, moths, grasshoppers, caterpillars, fly larvae, spiders, and worms. Habitat: Smooth green snakes can be found all around Michigan, but seem to have disappeared from much of the southern Lower Peninsula.
