Its refreshing aromas of rose petals, rosemary, plums, pine needles and wet slate lead to flavors like Bing cherries, marjoram, lavender and green tea. Daphne Vineyard is the second oldest (planted in 1974) and highest elevation (890 feet) of Eyrie's estate vineyards. Daphne's environment is one of extremes: it is exposed, cold and windy; the soil is shallow. The vines are almost bonsai-like and stripped of bark because of the harsh environment (see below); the clusters they produce are tiny. These conditions breed brilliance—and a rare combination of intensity and elegance.
