McKay Lusterware Pottery Planter Shaped as Fish

Beautiful vintage art pottery by McKay - a planter vase shaped as a fish. The planter is made of lusterware with iridescent sheen, imitating fish scales. Excellent vintage condition, no defects or visible signs of wear. Measurements: Length: 9" (23 cm). Height: 5" (12.5 cm). Depth: 2.75" (7 cm). Lusterware is a type of pottery with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence, produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish. This is achieved through a second firing at a lower temperature in a reduction kiln, which excludes oxygen. Lusterware pottery techniques were used as early as the 9th century AD.
