Swallow Tanager The swallow tanager (Tersina viridian) is found widely throughout South America, from Panama to n. Argentina. Names: The swallow tanager (Tersina viridis)  is a genus of tanager. It contains a single species, the swallow tanager. Description: The species is  dimorphic. The the female is a yellow-green, and the male Swallow Tanagers are shining turquoise blue, with a broad bill and black on the forehead and throat. Song: A high, slightly blurred or buzzy and metallic “tza-link” Breeding Swallow Tanagers: They breed in tree holes and therefore like cavity type nests.
