Sikhote Alin meteorite set in sterling silver pendant with spessartite garnet crystal, large black diamond, and 3 orange sapphires. 7.89 grams meteorite. 10.71 carats spessartite garnet crystal. 3.44 carats black diamond. .58 carat orange sapphires.  The Sikhote-Alin was one of the most spectacular meteorite falls in recorded history. Falling February 12, 1947, during daylight, the fireball was seen and heard for over 200 miles by many witnesses. It left a trail of smoke and dust 20 miles long. When the descending group of meteorites reached an altitude of about 3.5 miles, the largest mass apparently broke up in an explosion. This was an exceptionally low altitude for such an event, about half the altitude at which passenger jets fly.
