The Thornton (El Dorado 1966)
"Ride, Boldly, Ride" Released in 1966, "El Dorado" marks the second collaboration between John Wayne and Howard Hawks. As the leading man, Wayne brought swagger and ruggedness back to the big screen. Similar to it's popular predecessor "Rio Bravo" (1959) Wayne's character, Cole Thornton, is on a mission to right the injustices of wealthy land owner, Bart Jason. The similarities in plot have lead many western fans to declare "El Dorado" as a remake of the popular film "Rio Bravo", also directed by Howard Hawks. While that debate remains unsettled, there's much to enjoy about this film. The friendship between Thornton and J.P. Harrah (Robert Mitchum) is a well developed narrative and the humorous running gag involving Mississippi and his hat had many an audience member in stitches. Baron is proud to offer this replica hat, as worn by John Wayne in the film.
