Hand-painted collectible baseball card The city of San Diego is home to a large military population... with Navy, Coast Guard and Marine bases all nearby. In 1996, the Padres became the first national sports team to have an annual military appreciation event. Four years later, they became the first to wear camouflage. The original jerseys, were made in 2000 with a "Jungle Camo” design, fashioned after Vietnam. They've since been updated over the years, and are traditionally worn for all Sunday home games... as well as on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
