DC/Lith-ion to Petterson D500x Power Cable
This cable from BCM has a D500x external plug on one end, and a 5.5mm x 2.5mm end on the other, allowing you to connect to power sources such as certain lithium-ion battery packs. There are two versions of this cable, depending on the generation of D500x you have. The D500x built before 2013 and has the weatherproof plastic connector with two small pins. Present power in plugs are all metal barrel plugs (see photos). Both cables lock to the D500x itself, preventing disconnects. The DC end of this plug is at 90° right angle, facilitating securing with rubber bands if necessary and better fit into storage enclosures. There is a variety of mass produced lithium-ion battery packs available that pack more energy into a smaller, lighter case than ever before, and take charges better than sealed lead acid batteries. For capacity reference, alkaline D cells are typically rated at 13000 mAh. Run time will vary depending how many triggers there are; particularly noisy environments with the Trigger Sensitivity set to Medium may last only a week on D cells, but that time may triple under more ideal conditions. Your battery pack must have a 6-9v DC out plug with a 2.5mm connection port. It also should have a solid on/off switch; some sophisticated battery packs shut off after amount of time when too little current is being detected. This means the battery will likely turn off when the D500x is in sleep mode during the day, or even between a long period between any detections. Be sure your battery pack will stay in the "on" position indefinitely. A suggested lithium-ion battery is this one rated at 14500 mAh @9v, and has a solid off/on switch that remains on even when the D500 is drawing minute power in sleep mode.
