Stalingrad Front Lines German Battle Map
Especially rare and important Wehrmacht map showing German offensive and defensive operations in and around Stalingrad on 27 September 1942. This German map was later captured by the Soviets. The topographical map is labeled: "Stalingrad M-38." It was printed by the Wehrmacht in Warsaw, an overprint with German names over an existing Russian map. A great deal of detail is revealed on the map, with German forces and front lines shown in blue grease pencil and Russian forces shown in orange. The map is dated at upper-right "27.9.42" which was the same day that the fighting shifted north to the industrial district. Having slowly advanced over ten days against strong Soviet resistance, 51st Army Corps was finally in front of the three giant factories of Stalingrad: The Red October, Barricades and Tractor Factory.
