With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century antique South Carolina Mahogany pie crust tea table. We’ve spent a lot of time in Charleston and it’s one of our favorite cities and we absolutely love their furniture. We strongly believe this is a Charleston table and have seen similar tables in the MESDA collection, the MET, the MFA, and private collections throughout the country. The table has a single board Mahogany top with a carved pie crust edge and a birdcage mechanism that allows the top to turn. The construction of the birdcage and the cleats is consistent with tables that came out of Charleston in the 18th century. While Virginia was growing Tobacco, South Carolina’s most profitable crops were rice & indigo.
