18TH C ANTIQUE SECRETARY CABINET / PRIMITIVE JELLY CUPBOARD ~ ORIGINAL RED WASH

With our highest compliments we're proud to offer for sale this exceptional 18th century Queen Anne period secretary top / jelly cupboard. We believe this was originally an applewood secretary top of great scale. The previous owner's family has used this as a free standing jelly cupboard / cabinet the last 3 generations ~150 years. We strongly feel this is a Hartford county Connecticut cabinet but to heir to caution we'll call it New England. We lament we didn't get to see the entire secretary as a whole. We can imagine how massive and stately it would have been. This would without a doubt be locked away in a museum or historical society were it whole. This cabinet is a fantastic example of early joinery techniques. The case has wonderful hand cut dovetails along the crown and the base.
