This is a stunning piece of furniture made at the height of the American Classical period probably in New York but possibly Boston. Boston, Philadelphia, & New York were the epicenters of American classical design and New York City was slowly pulling ahead as the country's most innovative & prolific cabinet making city. New York City had a busy port where Mahogany could be readily purchased and also benefited from a large supply of skilled immigrant laborers and an increasingly wealthy populace who had the means to commission such pieces. The table is adorned with crotch Mahogany veneers on almost every surface and the table has aged very well.
