19TH C ANTIQUE GRAIN PAINTED VERMONT FEDERAL PERIOD COUNTRY CANNONBALL ROPE BED
EARLY 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE FEDERAL NEW ENGLAND / VERMONT GRAIN PAINTED CANNONBALL BED We're pleased to offer for sale this great late 18th / early 19th century antique New England grain painted bed. The bed has finely formed ringlet & bulbous cannonball turnings with a rare all over sponge painted decoration. The surface is meant to imitate a fancy burled walnut or elm wood that wouldn't have been readily available or affordable in a country cabinet shop. We strongly feel this is a Vermont bed but to be fair similar grain painting can be found spread out through New England. The bed has round rails with the same painted decoration and is sturdy as a rock held together with large square head carriage bolts. We note minimal white paint transfer on the bed that we didn't attempt to remove. We didn't want to disturb the original sponge painted surface and risk damaging it.
