This chair is a fine example of a classical period design with the most spectacular elaboration being present along the crest. A central panel of crotched mahogany veneer is boldly emphasized with stylized classical carvings to either end and a curved and shaped overall form which provides comfort as well as aesthetic appeal. A curved back support spans horizontally below the chair crest and also features bold crotched mahogany grain. The chair frame is molded with a rounded over reeded profile which allows the contoured lines to lead your eye to the crest of the chair as the entire design freely flows from that decorative element. We believe this chair to be a product of the third quarter of the 19th century made sometime between the years 1850 - 1875.
