A traditional 18th century design, a rice carved plantation bed is a highly sought after American staple. The earliest known examples were made in the Carolinas in the second half of the 18th century. The original gentleman to commission the design wanted the plants that gave him his immense wealth carved into the post. Rice and tobacco we're the most prevalent cash crops in the area at the time. The posts are finely carved with tobacco leaves at the lower turning & rice carvings above.
