Antique Hepplewhite Drop Leaf Tavern Table / Bakers Table

With our highest compliments and utmost honor, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this exceptional early 19th century Antique New England Pine Hepplewhite tavern table / bakers table. The table exhibits wonderful proportions and employs a rare single leaf configuration. When extended the leaf is supported by an uncommon fifth swinging gate leg. Both the tabletop and leaf have breadboard ends, crafted from large single planks of old-growth New England White Pine. The main board does have an old diagonal age split, but that’s not uncommon for a pine board of its age and size. The legs taper in as they descend and are peg joined where they meet the apron. Over the years the table has developed a warm pumpkin pine colored patina enhancing its character and charm. It remains in wonderful condition, and given our extensive experience, we anticipate it will be several years before we encounter another piece of this form.
