The Casket Girls No. 2 2022 This is No. 2 of a diptych based on the local New Orleans legend of the Casket Girls. The story goes that young women were shipped from France to New Orleans to marry men in need of wives. It’s reminiscent of a Handmaid’s Tale scenario in which women had no autonomy over their bodies or destiny. During their journey to the new colony they were said to have become vampires. Upon discovery by the nuns of Ursuline’s Convent, they were kept away in the attic for their safety and the obvious security of the colony. In this version, these newly made vampires liberate themselves from the church and their bondage to find freedom.
