What Is the Christian Gospel?

“What is the Christian gospel?”  If you were to respond that question, how would you answer? As you may know, the word "gospel" simply means "good news"; but what is the good news that Christians believe and that we want to share with everyone else?  Sometimes others, and even Christians ourselves, get confused about this vital question and mistake the Christian gospel for moral teaching ("don’t lie or steal"), or charitable works ("do unto others as you would have them do unto you").
