Meranti is the modern common name for a wood that is also sold in the market as "Philippine mahogany" or "Lauan," although these are misnomers. You'll find a nice wood grain which adds visual interest, and the wood is light weight, but durable. The beads are wax polished by hand for a smooth finish.
