Ambete Reliquary Male Figure Large, Gabon/ DRC Congo PROVENANCE This fine old Ambete (or Mbete) power figure is made of quite hard wood, with a partially crusty surface from repeated offerings. The rectangular cavity in the back of the statue probably once contained Magic Amulets or pieces of bones. The object most likely dates back to the first half of the 20th century. Measurements: 43.5cm Condition: Good The object comes from a German collection (of the late Mr F. Tandinski, Cologne, Germany)
