Yoruba Male Elder Figure, Nigeria #284 A Male Yoruba Elder Figure with a Ceremonial Staff in one hand and a carved wooden Chain or Necklace of Beads (symbolizing Rank or Office in the Community's Governing Structure or Secret Society Structure) in the other hand. Carved from a single block of wood, this fine and complex carving would have represented a Revered Elder. The Figure was most likely used in Ceremonies or Rituals involving Judgements or Official Actions in the Community. Condition: Very good in all aspects of the Figure, which is based on a plinth with heavy deterioration from long term use and age. Natural brownish patina. Measurements: 54cm Age: Mid 20th Century Origin is Nigeria
