Chinese Antique Ink Stone in Fitted Wood Box Circa 1900
A well-used old ink stone that has a fitted wood box that could still be used today. The ink stains on the box really give it character and a sense of age. A heavy black stone that was shaped to grind ink on. One end is deeper to hold and mix the ground ink. The box has been fitted with a wood box. The wood has a fine grain. The base of the wood container is not finished. The sides of the wood box have been finished and are somewhat shiny. The stone is very heavy. MEASUREMENTS7 3/4” (19.7 cm) long x 5 ¼” (13.3 cm) wide x 1 ¾” (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lb 8.9 oz (1895 g) CONDITION The wood has stains from the ink stain. The stone has chips along the edges. The raised edge on the end opposite the receptacle has larger chips. The stone surface shows uneven discoloration from the ink. A highly useful and decorative object with a real feel of age. A scholar's object for the desk.
