Japanese Satsuma Signed Vase Chrysanthemum Design Circa 1950
A truncated rectangular vase with a fine crackle satsuma glaze and delicate hand-painted polychrome paintings of chrysanthemums on each side. Each chrysanthemum design is different and has been colorfully painted. Gilding has been generously used on the mouth, shoulder, among the mums, and foot. The raised foot is unglazed. The base is glazed and has an iron red Japanese mark. There is a mon symbol and two characters. MEASUREMENTS 3” (7.6 cm) wide x 3” (7.6 cm) deep x 6 ¼” (15.9 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 3.8 oz (560 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The gilding and the polychrome decorations are in good condition. There are a couple of glaze spots on the base and some gilding spots on one side. There are small scuff marks on the surface on lower half on two sides. There are also kiln flaws, such as little dimples under the glaze and reserve pin holes. The vase is so well painted. I love how a butterfly flutters about the flowers on one of th
