1851 Schuylkill Arsenal Overcoat
Replacing the long standing model 1819/32 overcoat for the US model 1851 primary overcoat utilized by US army during civil war. While retaining previous patterns sky blue cloth it modernized the overall appearance of the army to the fashion of the 1850s. Full length overcoat with cape extending to the mid arm. Cape closed with six general service buttons. Coat overall closed with five general service buttons, adjustable belt, and tall standing collar. As per all pre Civil War and Schuylkill produced garments, original are completely hand sewn. Beauregard's Tailor's reproduction has all visible work completed by hand.Two examples are offered based on surviving examples. One is based on a pre-war example that did not have any top-stitching (wartime examples without this feature are also known). The 2nd is based on a wartime example that is completely top stitched. The coat photographed is the non-topstitched example.
