The combined 8th and 19th Arkansas Volunteer Infantry Flag in a Hardee pattern. The 8th and 19th were consolidated in late 1863. The flag has a faded blue field surrounded by a white border. Central device is a white disc with black crossed cannons in the middle (5 3/4" long). Designation lettering is black capitol Romans, 1 3/4" high: 8th and 19th Ark REGT'S. The honors lettering is white capitol Romans above disc in varying heights: Shiloh, Elk Horn, Perryville, Murfreesboro, Ark. Post, Liberty Gap. Below the disc, in varying heights approx. 1 1/2" to 2”: Chickamauga, Tunnel Hill Tenn. Below the honors is Ringgold Gap in white. All of the lettering is painted.Captured at Jonesboro, Georgia on September 1, 1864 by 2nd Lt. Jerry Kuder of the 74th Indiana Infantry, Co. The flag was returned to Arkansas in 1905 by Resolution of Congress. It had been in the care of the War Department up to then.
