Western Yarrow is a common and long-lived flowering perennial that starts blooming in April and doesn't stop until it's time for snow again. Yarrow has no real preferences, found in about every ecotype and community. Tolerates poor soil, garden soil, drought, irrigation, sun, shade, etc. It can be considered aggressive when planted without competition, but in a healthy wild yard or garden it does not outcompete other established vegetation. It is also easy to remove/control if kept from seeding. Western Yarrow is an excellent choice for xeriscapes, meadows, cuttings, pollinator gardens, dry shade, groundcover, edible yards or mass plantings.
