Conditions must be exactly right in California’s lower Sierra Nevada mountains for these wild desert plants to produce enough blooms for the bees to make their magic. From being introduced to beekeeping at 11 years old, to working for no money with an old beekeeper in high school, I grew up learning how important these little creatures are.
