Arkansas Flag Facts The original Arkansas State flag was designed by Daughters of the American Revolution member Willie Hocker after winning a DAR sponsored contest. After a few edits it was officially adopted in February 1913. The diamond represents Arkansas' status as "the only diamond-bearing state in the Union". At the time it had the only diamond mine in North America. The Arkansas State Flag ranked 45th out of 72 North American Flags according to a 2001 North American Vexillological Association pole. The Arkansas Flag has its very own salute..."I salute the Arkansas Flag with its diamond and stars. We pledge our loyalty to thee."
