Red Melon Sword
Red Melon Sword Scientific Name: Echinodorus barthii Common Name: Red Melon Sword Our red melon swords are a more colorful variant of sword plant for use as a background plant in blackwater, biotope, and botanical method aquariums. It grows at a decent pace and does like a bit more light than typical swords. Of course, in higher light the colors will really come out, but even under low light, it will maintain some of its red/amber coloration. Just like other swords, it grows best in a nutrient-rich substrate that also contains root tabs to give it extra nutrients. For our blackwater, biotope, and botanical method aquariums, we recommend using root tabs, as nutrient-rich substrates like aquasoils have been known to break down tannins quickly in the aquarium. Caring for Red Melon Swords in Blackwater Aquariums Care: Medium Light: Medium CO2: Not Needed Tint Tolerance: Low levels of tannins are recommended because of their red pigment, which photosynthesizes best under higher light.
