Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, Henriet Bazin NV (Champagne, France)

Champagne Henriet-Bazin is a 5th generation winery currently run by Marie-Noelle Henriet-Rainon, who took over from her father Daniel in the early 2000's, but continues his tradition of organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking. No chemicals in the vineyards and everything is hand harvested and fermented with native yeast in enamel lined concrete tanks. This bottling is 100% Pinot Noir from organic Grand Cru vineyards in Verzenay and Verzy on the eastern side of the Montagne de Reims. 70% of the blend is a base wine made from the 2016 harvest with the rest coming from a Solera that Daniel started in 1968 and gets added to with every vintage. That Solera is really the secret ingredient making this bottle so special and supercharges it with bold, complex notes of black truffle and spice to go with the crunchy red berry fruit and the bright, chalky minerality. Serious bubbles!
