Near very good condition, light wear to spine and edges.  Signed and inscribed by the author in typical green ink with drawing: 'para / Vladimir / Lidin / su amigo Pablo' [For Vladimir Lidin. His friend Pablo]. First Russian edition. This authorized translation of 'General Song' was published without the sixth canto, 'America, I Do Not Invoke Your Name in Vain'. The translator is the Russian poet Il'ya Erenburg (1891-1967). Erenburg collaborated with El Lissitzky on the album 'My Paris' (1931). During the Spanish Civil War, he served as a war correspondent for 'Izvestia' newspaper. In 1944, Erenburg co-edited 'The Black Book of Soviet Jewry' with V. Grossman. He later published the story 'The Thaw' ('Ottepel'), which gave its name to an important period in mid-20th century Russia.This copy has been signed and inscribed to the Russian novelist and prominent bibliophile Vladimir Lidin (1894-1979).
