Blackthorn wood is very rare in Ireland, so craftsmen will visit their secret locations in the dark. Like truffles or morels, blackthorn wood is harvested once per year. The name comes from the Shillelagh Forest in County Wicklow, where it originates historically. It has evolved to become a sturdy, decorative walking stick that is lightweight and a symbol of distinction. Because blackthorn wood is created in nature, no two are exactly the same. The Blackthorns shown -  are being loved by customers already. Our Irish walking sticks are fashioned to be approximately 36" tall from the bottom of the copper ferrule to the top of the handle, and about 1" in diameter.
